Meads Tesco application rejected for the second time Fri 31st Oct 2008 Stephen Lloyd, who spoke at the Planning Meeting against the re-application by Tesco for their proposed Store in Meads said: "I was delighted the application by Tesco was rejected a second time by the Planning Committee. The grounds for refusal were exactly the same as last. The noise nuisance given off by the air-conditioners."

Almost half of Eastbourne's children live in low income families Tue 7th Oct 2008 The Campaign to End Child Poverty has released data for every parliamentary constituency in the UK, showing how many children are living in low income families. Low income means where no-one is working more than 16 hours a week or the family is receiving the full amount of Working Tax Credit. In Eastbourne the research indicated that 45% of families live in low income households.

Local people feel the pinch. Tue 7th Oct 2008 Like everyone else in the country residents of Eastbourne are suffering from rocketing food and energy prices. The government's own figures show that bread is up a fifth, butter and eggs by over a third and potatoes by over a quarter. Hardest hit are pensioners and others on fixed incomes.

Good news for the Ghurkhas Tue 30th Sep 2008 On Tuesday this week at the High Court in London a group of former Ghurkha soldiers with the British Army, won their immigration test case. They were challenging immigration rules which said that those who retired from the British Army before 1997 did not have an automatic right to stay. The government said it would now review all Ghurkhas cases.

TESCO TRY AGAIN IN MEADS Wed 24th Sep 2008 After the surprise reversal last July when Tesco Stores put forward an amendment planning application only to rejected by the Borough Council Planning Committee, the retail giant has come back for a second attempt.

Lloyd gets local NHS volunteer drivers motion to Parliament Thu 21st Aug 2008 The rising cost of fuel has caused problems for volunteer NHS drivers within Eastbourne and the surrounding area. Lib Dem parliamentary campaigner, Stephen Lloyd, first publicised there was an issue in early July when he was contacted by a local resident who volunteers as a driver for the NHS.
