Job Description – Campaigns Organiser (Eastbourne and Willingdon)


Eastbourne and Willingdon Liberal Democrats are seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated person who can manage our campaigns and build campaigning capacity.


This is a fantastic opportunity to lead the work, to deliver campaigning activity, and build the infrastructure and organisation necessary to elect a Lib Dem MP in the constituency at the next General Election. At the last General Election the Liberal Democrats ended up on 4331 votes behind and are currently one of the top target seats in the country. 


May 2023 will also see local elections and you will be responsible for ensuring the team are able to deliver a winning campaign and hold onto the Borough Council, working with the Constituency Co-ordinator.

Eastbourne and Willingdon constituency (a blend of working from our 100 Seaside Road HQ, out in the field, and home working)

Working hours

16 hours a week. This may involve some weekend and evening working, as required.

Campaigns Manager (Dan Purchese)

Fixed term contract until 6 weeks after the next General Election


£24,000 pro rata + 3% employer pension contribution

Key responsibilities


Project Management

  • Overall campaigns project management, including oversight of delivering the constituency campaign plan (in line with HQ Target Seat requirements), as agreed between our HQ Campaigns Manager, PPC and Campaigns Committee
  • Chair monthly Campaign Committee meetings
  • Supervise work of senior campaign volunteers (e.g. volunteer Head of Canvassing)



  • Co-ordinating and producing campaign literature for all non-held wards in the constituency
  • Leading with suggestions and revisions for all literature in non-held wards in the constituency
  • Leading the design and commissioning of all targeted literature (e.g. direct mail)



  • Quality assure existing data in held and non-held wards
  • Work closely with Data Officer, HQ Campaign Manager and Connect Support to target canvassing activities and literature
  • Analyse data insights to identify campaigns for the local party and PPC to lead



  • Support Constituency Co-ordinator to effectively deploy specialist volunteer skills on the campaign
  • Induct new approved and selected local government candidates into the local party campaign, and provide support and guidance as appropriate



  • Attending relevant conferences, training and other meetings as required.



Person specification



  • Sympathy with the aims and objectives of the Liberal Democrats.
  • Deep local knowledge of the key issues, opportunities and political demographics of the Eastbourne and Willingdon constituency
  • Experience of working with, training and motivating volunteers.
  • Ability to work as a self-starter under the direction of your line manager(s)
  • Ability to develop positive relationships with supporters, stakeholders and other third-parties.
  • Ability to communicate diplomatically and liaise effectively with the Lib Dem Groups.
  • Ability to work unsupervised, and effectively prioritise work under pressure.
  • Ability to delegate effectively
  • Ability to work to deadlines and accurately record and analyse data and maintain databases.
  • Past experience of dealing with public in difficult circumstances as well as knowledge of casework.
  • Ability to project manage campaigns and workstreams to successfully oversee their delivery
  • Experience of working in a leading political or campaigning role
  • Experience of writing campaign literature.
  • Ability to spot opportunities and deliver a coherent and strong campaigning message to maximise the opportunity.


  • Experience of Liberal Democrat software and databases (e.g. Affinity Publisher, NationBuilder & Connect)
  • Full UK driving license and access to a vehicle.
