Restoring Eastbourne's Direct Service to London Bridge

Join Josh's Campaign to Restore Direct London Bridge Service

Direct Service to London Bridge
Direct Service to London Bridge

Over the past few months, residents across our town have raised concerns about poor rail connectivity. As passenger numbers return to pre-pandemic levels, it’s clear: the demand is there.

🔙 Before it was scrapped in 2020. Eastbourne used to have a direct connection to London Bridge. Today, I’m launching a campaign to bring it back!

🏖️ Other seaside towns like; Hastings, Brighton, and Worthing, all have direct connections. Eastbourne shouldn’t be left behind.

✍️ In March, I wrote to GTR, Network Rail, and the Department for Transport to make the case for restoring this vital link.

🏙️Forcing Eastbourne's passengers to change trains en route to the City of London or the East End adds more time and stress to their commutes. In fact, often the trains they have to change onto are delayed and overcrowded!

Eastbourne deserves better. This is about:
💼 More opportunity for local people!
📈 A boost for businesses and our local economy!

BACKGROUND:

For five long years, our town has been left without a direct train link into London Bridge.

And as a regular commuter from our town, I understand the frustration that many feel.

After all, whilst London Victoria works for some, for others this takes them into a station that is on the wrong side of our capital - forcing them onto busy, packed tube trains or overcrowded trains when they change en route.

Not only does this make it harder for commuters in our town, it also makes Eastbourne harder to visit when it comes to our vital tourism trade.

Indeed, whilst Brighton can be visited from London Victoria, London Bridge, London St Pancras International and Farringdon, Eastbourne can only be visited directly from one station - London Victoria.

Our town shouldn’t be left behind.

This state of affairs:

  • holds back investment from visitors
  • holds back commuters on their journeys
  • holds back Eastbourne

So, I’m launching a campaign to bring back the direct train between Eastbourne and London Bridge!

My team and I are working with local train operators as well as the relevant ministers to make this happen, but we need to make it clear that the people of Eastbourne are behind us - so please be sure to sign this petition here.

For the person eyeing up a new job; for the ice cream vendor hoping for more sunny-day sales, and for the commuter wanting to spend more time with their family; I’m working to bring this train back for you.
